The Navajo Nation Museum is the tribe's own museum of Navajo history and culture, in Window Rock, the Navajo Nation's capital. It shares its building with the Navajo Nation Library and stands next to the Navajo Nation Zoo. The Navajo Tourism Department says the museum's exhibits change from time to time, so what is on show depends on when you visit.

In 2018 the National Archives lent the museum the 1868 treaty that created the Navajo reservation and ended the imprisonment of the Navajo at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, for the treaty's 150th anniversary.

The museum also works to keep the Navajo language alive. Under its director Manuelito Wheeler it produced a Navajo-language version of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, completed in 2013, and then a Navajo version of Finding Nemo, which premiered in 2016.

Check opening hours and admission before you go. We could not reach an official museum website, and the listings we found disagree about hours. Window Rock keeps Navajo Nation time, which is an hour ahead of Phoenix from March to November. The zoo next door is open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., so you can easily see both on the same visit.
